Thursday soccer report: Onalaska, Central earn shutouts in MVC matchups

ONALASKA — Senior Natalie Tevis led the Onalaska High School girls soccer team to a big 6-0 MVC victory over visiting Aquinas on Thursday.

Tevis scored the third, fifth and sixth goals for the Hilltoppers (8-2-1, 5-1-1), who are ranked ninth in Division 2 by state coaches. The Blugolds fell to 5-3-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the conference.

Senior Mallory Meighan scored unassisted to open the game and assisted on the first goal for Tevis. Sophomore Finley Walters scored in between with the first assist of the game from junior Isabella Cromheecke.

Cromheecke then assisted on a goal for freshman Ellie Thesing and another for Tevis before Tevis scored the final goal with an assist from freshman Claire Verzwyvelt.

Freshman Avery Cowley had eight saves to get the shutout for Onalaska. Madeline Grossbach had nine saves for Aquinas.

Central 8, Sparta 0

LA CROSSE — The eighth-ranked RiverHawks (9-1-2, 5-1-1) recorded their third shutout of the week and have scored at least eight goals in all of them.

Junior Grace Wilkerson scored four goals — one in the first and three in the second — as Central won for the fourth time at Fields for Kids.

Wilkerson also assisted on three goals for the RiverHawks, who have outscored their opponents 25-0 since a 1-1 tie at Onalaska on May 1.

Senior Avery Bosshard also scored three goals and gave Central a 3-0 halftime lead when she scored off an assist from Mae Yang, who also scored Central’s second goal.

Ellia Dale and Madden Xiong also had assists for the RiverHawks, who received two saves from goalkeeper Laura Lapp.
