SPARTA — The Onalaska High School girls soccer team scored the final seven goals in an 8-1 MVC victory at Sparta on Tuesday.
The Hilltoppers (7-2-1, 4-1-1), who are ranked ninth in Division 2 by state coaches, emerged from a 1-1 tie when junior Isabella Cromheecke scored her second goal of the game — this one unassisted — to give Onalaska the lead for good.
Sophomore Finley Walters assisted on Cromheecke’s first goal and finished the game with four goals and the assist. Cromheecke scored twice and McKenna Alderman and Natalie Tevis once each.
Cromheecke had two assists and Tevis, Ellie Thesing and Mallory Meighan one each.
Freshman Avery Cowley played in goal and stopped four shots for the Hilltoppers.
West Salem 3, Logan/Luther 0
LA CROSSE — The first-place Panthers (7-1-1, 5-0-1) scored twice in the first half and once in the second for a win at Swanson Field.
Emily Bell started things with an unassisted goal, and Sam Niemeier followed by converting an assist from Amelia Karr.
Niemeier also scored in the second half, this time with an assist from Brisha Briseno.
Central 8, Richland Center 0
RICHLAND CENTER — The RiverHawks (8-1-2), ranked eighth in Division 2 by state coaches, scored six goals in the first half and two in the second.
Mae Yan cored three goals and assisted on another for Central, which has only been beaten this season by MVC-leading West Salem. Yang scored the team’s first goal off an assist from Harper Zietlow just 5 minutes in.
She also scored in the 35th minute with an assist from Avery Bosshard and the 38th with an assist from Grace Wilkerson. Yang also assisted on a Bosshard goal that gave the RiverHawks a 3-0 lead in the 27th minute.
Bosshard and Wilkerson both finished with two goals and one assist, and Ellia Dale had one goal and one assist for Central, which used three goalkeepers but yielded no shots on goal.
Aquinas 3, Arcadia/Independence 0
LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (5-2-2, 2-2-2) kept the offense churning and put 17 of 50 shots on goal against the Raiders (1-8-1, 0-5).
Hayden Zehren, Nora Dickenson and Hannah Miller all scored for Aquinas, which plays Onalaska on Thursday. The Blugolds also brought their defensive game and didn’t allow Arcadia/Independence a shot on goal.
