Friday girls basketball report: Aquinas routs Tomah; West Salem blasts Westby

LA CROSSE — Sophomore Ava Fernholz made four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Aquinas High School girls basketball team to a 91-33 MVC victory over Tomah at the Reinhart Athletic Complex on Friday.

Fernholz made two 3s in each half and scored 12 points in the first half as the first-place Blugolds (13-3, 7-0) won their 12th game in a row and extended their conference win streak to 109 games. Eleven players scored for Aquinas, and Fernholz added six rebounds, five assists and three steals to her stat line.

Sophomore Olivia Passehl scored 21 points on seven 3-pointers, and junior Sammy Davis had 14 points. Junior Alaina Elias scored nine points and had a team-high seven of the Blugolds’ 35 steals.

Aquinas puts its winning streaks on the line Tuesday at third-place Holmen (7-7, 4-2). The Blugolds beat the Vikings 51-46 on Dec. 14.

West Salem 65, Westby 23

WEST SALEM — The first-place Panthers (13-3, 7-0) had little trouble with the Norsemen (4-10, 1-6).
Senor Megan Johnson scored 20 points to lead 10 scorers for West Salem, which had a 39-11 halftime lead.

Junior Josie Brudos made two 3-pointers and added 10 points for the Panthers, who host Black River Falls in their next game on Thursday.

Addy Ferguson and Sam Niemeier added seven points apiece for West Salem.

Luther 66, G-E-T 27

GALESVILLE — The Knights (11-3, 7-1) maintained sole possession of second place in the Coulee and sit a half-game behind West Salem after winning their second game in a row and third in their last four.

Senior Macie Neumeister made pair of 3-pointers and scored a team-high 16 points for Luther, which heled the Red Hawks to 10 points in the second half. Freshman Cara Unke scored 12 of her 14 in the first half, and senior Allie Zittel made two first-half 3-pointers and added 11 for a Luther team that had 10 players score.

Sparta 46, Logan 31

LA CROSSE — The Spartans (8-9, 2-5) pulled away in the second half to beat the Rangers (2-13, 1-6) for a second time.

Sparta pulled away from a close game — the Spartans spent most of the first half with a two- or four-point lead — for a 26-18 halftime lead, then held Logan to three second-half field goals and 13 points the rest of the way.

Lydia Mason scored nine points to lead the Rangers, who received seven points apiece from Kaia DePaolo and Lilly Dettwiler.

Arcadia 58, Stanley-Boyd 52

STANLEY — The Raiders (10-6) ran their winning streak to three games behind a career-high 19 points from sophomore Madison Grotjahn, who made a 3-pointer and had 13 first-half points to help Arcadia to a 39-25 halftime lead.

Sophomore Tatum Drazkowski scored 10 of her 12 in the first half for the Raiders, who host C-FC on Monday before playing at second-place Luther on Thursday.
