WIAA boys tennis subsectionals: Onalaska, Aquinas qualify large groups for sectionals

ONALASKA — The Logan High School boys tennis team put together 20 points to top the other seven teams at its WIAA Division 1 subsectional hosted by Onalaska on Tuesday.

The Rangers advanced three singles players and all three of their doubles teams to the Madison Memorial Sectional on Thursday. They will take their 20 points to the sectional, which begins at 10 a.m. at the Nielsen Tennis Center.

Sophomore Michael Jarrett won in straight sets the only match he had to play at No. 1 singles to move his record to 11-11.

Junior Parker Stevermer and freshman Kule Kelly also qualified as Logan singles players. Stevermer (16-7) won twice in straight sets at No. 3 singles, and Kelly (14-4) took care of his two opponents in straight sets at No. 4 singles.

Seniors Cael Novak and Sam Bleidorn won their match at No. 1 doubles, and the juniors teams of Rohan Pande and Philip Myers and Isaac Gabriel and Spencer Hinton won twice at No. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.

Central accumulated 10 points, Onalaska eight and Holmen four at the subsectional.

The RiverHawks will be represented by its No 1 doubles team of senior Drake Wonderling and freshman Ian Romano and its No. 2 doubles team of juniors Ryan Tschumper and Henry Hanson at the sectional.

Onalaska senior Lewis Go (16-3) also advanced with his quarterfinal win at No. 1 singles.

DIVISION 2

LA CROSSE — Aquinas outscored the field with 22 points at Green Island and will be represented in six flights in the Altoona Sectional at the Menard Tennis Center in Eau Claire on Thursday.

Senior Tegan Schott (18-4) and the doubles team of junior Owen Ludlow and sophomore Charles Endrizzi (3-6) both won once to advance at No. 1 singles and doubles.

Senior Isaac Capelli (14-6), sophomore Korwin Bessinger (8-5) and sophomore Henry McGovern also advanced by winning twice each at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles.

The sophomore team of Samuel Murray and Isaac Smith (13-7) also won twice to advance at No. 3 doubles.

West Salem was held scoreless and without a subsectional victory.
