SPARTA — The Onalaska High School boys golf team squeezed out a one-stroke victory in Monday’s MVC meet at River Run Golf Course.
The Hilltoppers shot a collective 310 to clip second-place Sparta (311). Aquinas was third at 328, Holmen fourth at 336and Central/Logan fifth at 337.
Onalaska had four of the top 10 finishers in a meet won individually by Aquinas sophomore James Siegert with a 1-over-par 73.
Siegert had two birdies and three bogeys in a par-heavy round. His birdies came at No. 4 and No. 9.
Siegert finished one stroke better than Onalaska sophomore Rylan Tomashek and Central/Logan junior Sid Hooyman, who tied at 74. Tomashek birdied No. 7 and No. 9, and Hooyman beat par on Nos. 4, 7 and 17.
Onalaska’s remaining scoring rounds came from junior Grayson Andel (78), junior Chasen Witt (78) and sophomore Colten Schroeder (80).
The Blugolds received an 82 from sophomore Luke Jones, an 85 from junior Michael Jones and 86s from junior James Vogel and junior Gabe Hundt.
Holmen senior Logan Pinnow was sixth overall and shot a 77 for his team’s low score. Junior Gavin Steffen added an 84, senior Ayden Dirks an 87 and senior Cole Vanlin an 88.
Central/Logan had sophomore Sam Hansen following Hooyman with an 87. Freshman Nate Brudos and senior Tyler Sirianni added 88s.
Coulee Conference Meet
VIROQUA — West Salem finished fourth and Luther fifth in the fifth conference meet of the season at Viroqua Hills.
The Panthers shot a 174 and the Knights 177 in a meet won by Black River Falls (162).
Luther sophomore Robert Bruns shot a 1-over 37 and finished second individually, three shots behind Hillsboro/Royall freshman Luke Holthe.
Bruns birdied No. 4 but a couple of bogeys left him over par.
The Panthers were topped by junior Noah Wachter, who tied for fourth place with a 39.
The Panthers also received scoring rounds from junior Kayden Tauscher (44), senior Coen Knutson (45) and junior Drew McConkey (46).
Luther’s other scoring rounds came from sophomore Jaden Kolb (46), freshman Jonah Matzker (47) and sophomore Colten Sawyer (47).
