LA CROSSE — The Aquinas High School softball team needed just five innings to claim its first victory of the season on Thursday.
The Blugolds scored four runs in the first inning and three more in the second on their way to a 13-0 nonconference win over Luther at Pammel Creek Fields.
Senior Abby Ziolkowski pitched a complete game and shut down the Knights after Rylee Weber led off the game with a single. Ziolkowski finished with a one-hitter while striking out eight and walking two batters.
Ziolkowski also went 2 for 2 with a single, a double and two runs driven in — she hit a two-run double in the third inning — before junior first baseman Ava Scholze ended the game with a fifth-inning grad slam. Scholze finished 3 for 4 and added a double while she drove in six runs.
Junior shortstop Ava Fernholz was 2 for 4 and scored four runs with the help of five stolen bases, and senior third baseman Lauren Von Ruden drew four walks, scored four runs and stole two bases.
Freshman second baseman Addy Watson singled home a run in the first inning and hit a double that scored three runs in the second.

GALESVILLE — The RiverHawks scored once in each of the first four innings, but the Red Hawks scored seven runs during that same period to take control and keep it.
First baseman Addy Roesler was 2 for 4 with a doubles and drove in two runs for Central (0-1), which was held scoreless over the final three innings.
Shortstop Ellie Gillitzer was 2 for 3 with a double and had ne RBI. Catcher Morgan Pacl also drove in a run for the RiverHawks.
