HUDSON — The Holmen co-op and La Crosse/West Salem co-op boys swim teams were left without any automatic qualifiers for the WIAA state meet after failing to win an event at Saturday’s Division 1 sectional at Hudson.
Junior Deacon Durnil enjoyed the most successful day for local swimmers with a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and eighth-place performance in the 100 butterfly. He was timed at 23.29 seconds in the free and 58.94 in the fly.
Durnil was also part of a sixth-place swim in the 200 medley relay. Durnil, senior Danny Ott, junior Seth Russell and senior Warrick Ranis were collectively timed at 1:54.34 in that race.
The Holmen co-op, which also includes, Onalaska, Aquinas, G-E-T and Luther, finished with 116 points to place ninth. La Crosse/West Salem was 10th (45).
La Crosse/West Salem’s 200 freestyle relay team of juniors Gabe Driscoll, Charlie Larson, Camden Daykin and Parker Wolff finished seventh in 1:42.61.
Russell was also ninth in the 500 freestyle (5:37.03) and 12th in the 200 freestyle (2:00.99), and Ranis was 10th in the 500 freestyle (5:42.88).
Ott was 12th in the 200 individual medley (2:27.77), and Ranis was 12th in the 100 backstroke (1:05.32).
