WEST SALEM — The Coulee Region girls hockey team scored once in the first period, but Western Wisconsin pressured its defense far too often in a 7-1 victory at the Panther Den on Saturday.
Western Wisconsin outshot the Cyclones by a 58-11 margin and handed them their second loss in a row and third in four games.
Ava Ferguson, a freshman from Holmen, scored Coulee Region’s only goal with an assist from Holmen sophomore Ellie Hoehn at 13 minutes, 54 seconds of the first period to tie the game at 1 before Western Wisconsin scored the next six goals for the win.
Western Wisconsin scored twice in the first period, twice in the second and three times in the third with those 58 shots.
Coulee Region (2-11-1) next plays at Viroqua (1-12) on Tuesday. The Cyclones beat the Blackhawks 5-2 on Jan. 6.
