Thursday boys wrestling: Holmen wins twice in MVC triangular, G-E-T/Mel.-Min. wins twice in Coulee triangular

SPARTA — The Holmen High School boys wrestling team collected a pair of MVC dual victories with winos over Sparta and Logan/Central in a triangular hosted by the Spartans.

The Vikings, who are ranked second in Division 1 by Wisconsin Grappler, beat Sparta 62-13 and Logan/Central 70-10 for the sweep. Sparta gained a split with a 41-35 victory over Logan/Central.

Freshman Brendan Henderson (27-2, 113 pounds), sophomore Rex Lancaster (25-3, 120), sophomore Olie Strasser (18-9, 132), sophomore Sawyer Stetter (15-8, 144), senior Noah Henderson (21-8, 150), senior AJ Alesch (25-7, 157) and sophomore Rowdy Herrmann (11-11, 190) all wrestled twice and won twice for Holmen. Strasser, Stetter, Noah Henderson and Herrmann all won twice by pin, and Alesch won twice by technical fall.

Junior Calvin Arentz (26-5,175) and sophomore Emerson King (17-5, 138) won two matches for Logan/Central. Arentz won one major decision and once by technical fall, while King pinned one opponent and decisioned the other.

Westby Triangular

WESTBY — The G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro co-op came out with a 75-6 victory over Westby and a 58-17 victory over Arcadia.

Junior Braden Peterson (7-0, 175), junior Aaron Dunigan (21-4) and junior Andrew Bishop (14-8, 215) all won both matches they wrestled for the Titans. Peterson and Dunigan won both of their matches by pin, and Bishop pulled out a 4-2 decision over Westby junior Evan Berklund (18-7).
