High school basketball report: Holmen girls push Aquinas, but Blugolds continue win streak

The Aquinas High School girls basketball team was pushed into the final minute before finding a way to continue its MVC winning streak on Saturday.

Holmen was within one possession after making a 3-pointer with 1 minute, 19 seconds on the clock, but the Blugolds held on by making free throws late to claim a 51-46 victory at the Reinhart Athletic Complex.

Junior Sammy Davis had 11 points and nine rebounds for Aquinas (4-3, 2-0 MVC), which extended its conference win streak to 104 games. Sophomore teammate Ava Fernholz led the team with 15 points and added six rebounds, two steals and two assists for the Blugolds, who next play at Tomah on Tuesday.

Senior Danika Rebhahn scored 14 points and junior Macy Kline 13 for the Vikings (1-4, 0-1), who lost their conference opener.

Kline made a 3-pointer to get Holmen within 45-42 before necessary fouls sent the Blugolds to the free throw line, where they made enough to get the victory.

Holmen made seven 3-pointers, and Rebhahn, Kline and Makenzie Nunemacher each made two of them.

Aquinas also received three 3-pointers and 11 points from sophomore Olivia Passehl and six assists and five steals from sophomore Eva Willenbring.

Holmen 80, G-E-T 68

GALESVILLE — The Vikings (4-1) rebounded from their defeat at the hands of West Salem on Tuesday by handing the Red Hawks (2-3) their third loss in a row.

Senior Kaiden Wilber scored 20 points to lead four Holmen players in double figures. Wilber made 7 of 14 shots, hit 3 of 6 attempts from the 3-point line and had a team-high five assists.

Keenan Eisermann added 15 points and sophomore Jayden Bartels 14. Both of them made three 3-pointers. Parker Lindberg scored 11 and Alex Berget 10 for the Vikings.

G-E-T junior Mason Brone made 4 of 9 3-point attempts and shot 11-for-18 overall on his way to 26 points. He also had nine rebounds and five assists. Jackson Burns had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Hawks.
