Monday gymnastics/hockey: Holmen wins first MVC meet of the season

TOMAH — The Holmen High School gymnastics team posted a team score of 132.975 to win thew first MVC meet of the season Monday night at Tomah.

The Vikings had three of the top five all-around finishers and received a win from Ava Amundson with her score of 8.925 on the floor exercise. Holmen had three of the top four individuals on both the vault and floor.

Maija Kolpitcke placed second (8.6), Amundson third (8.5) and Molly McBride fourth (8.35) on the vault, and McBride (8.75) and Carly Nelson (8.475) added third- and fourth-place performances on the floor.

Amundson was second (33.825) to Sparta’s Gabrielle Bjorkman (36.575) in the all-around competition. Nelson was also fourth (32.925) and McBride fifth (32.725).

Nelson tied for second on the uneven bars (8.75), and Macelyn Favre was second (8.55) and Amundson third (8.45) on the balance beam for the Vikings.

Onalaska’s co-op placed third (120.625) and the Logan/Central co-op fifth (93.5).

Maggie Li was sixth (31.775) and Elin Gilles seventh (30.75) all-around for the Hilltoppers. Lauren Domroesae (30.45) was eighth for Logan/Central.

Logan/Central’s Danika Parnell was fourth (8.3) and Onalaska’s Gilles fifth (8.0) on the uneven bars, and Lee was fourth (8.375) and teammate Claire Fortun sixth (8.125) on the balance beam.

Domroese and Gilles tied for sixth place individually on the floor.

Monona Grove 7, Onalaska/La Crosse 1

ONALASKA — The Hilltoppers suffered their first defeat of the season and allowed three goals in the first half at the OmniCenter on Monday.

Onalaska/La Crosse (4-1) did score its lone goal in the first period, but the Silver Eagles (6-2) built on their 3-1 lead with three more goals in the second period.

Senior Jackson Egan converted passes from Liam Branson and Grayson Andel into a power-play goal at the 10:51 mark of the first. That tied the score until Monona Grove scored the next six.

Parker Tripp stopped 23 shots in goal for the Hilltoppers.
