Thursday girls basketball: Davis goes off for second time this week in win at Sparta

SPARTA — Aquinas High School senior Sammy Davis followed up one huge game with another to knock Sparta out of the ranks of the unbeaten on Thursday.

Davis scored 32 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to go with seven steals as the Blugolds beat the Spartans 79-43 at the Alton D. Ask Gymnasium.

Davis, a Bradley University commit, finished with 33 points and 10 rebounds in Tuesday’s 70-16 win at Holmen, giving her 65 points and 24 boards in two games this week.

Against Sparta (3-1, 0-1), Davis made 15 of 25 shots and had eight of her rebounds on the offensive end. Her seven steals tied Alaina Elias for the team lead on a night where the Blugolds (6-1 overall, 2-0 MVC) had 25 of them.

Aquinas, which is ranked eighth in Division 3 by the Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll, led 36-21 at the half, won its 116th straight conference game and also received 12 points on 6-for-12 shooting from Elias. Junior Liv Dickinson scored eight points and junior Eva Willenbring a team-high five assists for the Blugolds.

Onalaska 53, Logan 28

LA CROSSE — The Hilltoppers (3-2, 1-0 MVC) opened their conference season with a comfortable win over the Rangers (1-4, 0-1) at the Steve Hole Field House.

Onalaska had a 33-15 lead by halftime and expanded it from there to snap a two-game losing streak.
Sophomore Kayla Ketelhut scored a team-high 15 points for Onalaska, which also received 10 points from sophomore Kenzie Bauer and nine from junior Olivia Passehl.

Logan received a game-high seven points from senior Lydia Mason and five from junior Emma Bacon.

West Salem 87, Black River Falls 41

WEST SALEM — The Panthers (1-2, 1-0 Coulee) received five 3-pointers and a team-high 23 points from senior Josie Brudos, who scored 16 points in the first half to help them to a 42-21 halftime lead and first victory of the season after losses to Central and Holmen.

Brudos was one of eight West Salem players to score and just one of four in double figures.

Sophomore Anna Witte scored 11 of her 17 in the second half, and sophomores Amelia Karr and Ava Hendrickson scored 14 points apiece. Karr returned from a one-game injury absence and made a pair of 3-pointers.

Arcadia 70, Onalaska Luther 49

ARCADIA — The Knights (2-3, 0-1 Coulee) were led by 10-point performances from sophomores Jaeyda Livingston and Cara Unke in a loss to the Raiders.

Livingston made two 3-pointers and scored eight of her points in the second half. Unke scored seven points in the first half.

Sophomore Natalie Hackbarth also scored eight points for Luther.

Eau Claire Immanuel 52, Melrose-Mindoro 39

EAU CLAIRE — Senior Anna Radcliffe scored 27 points for the Mustangs (2-3, 2-3 Dairyland), who were outscored by 16 points in the second half.

Radcliffe scored 16 of Melrose-Mindoro’s 20 first-half points, and that was enough to produce a 20-17 halftime lead.

Radcliffe made six 3-pointers and hit three in each half and pushed her per-game scoring average to 21.2. She has made 17 3-pointers this season.
