Tuesday boys soccer report: Holmen, Logan pick up wins as MVC round-robin schedule begins

HOLMEN — The Holmen High School boys soccer team began the round-robin portion of its MVC schedule with a 2-1 victory over visiting Tomah on Tuesday.

The Vikings (8-6-1 overall, 8-1 MVC) never trailed after Brock Needham assisted on a Braylan Welch goal that opened the scoring in the first half. The Timberwolves tied the game before the end of the half.

Welch then scored for a second time — again with an assist from Needham — in the second half to give Holmen the victory.

Logan 4, Sparta 2

LA CROSSE — The Rangers (2-10, 2-7) beat the Spartans for a second time this season, and Javier Bonet made his varsity debut a memorable one with a pair of goals.

Bonet scored Logan’s first and fourth goals, getting an assist from Elliot Jessen to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Aidan Kuelz and Kai Holzer also scored for Logan, with Holzer’s goal coming with an assist from Nathaniel May.

Parker Stevemer had three saves in goal for the Rangers, who had 11 shots on goal, five free kicks and four corner kicks.

West Salem 4, Central 3

WEST SALEM — Junior Sam Adams scored twice — once on a penalty kick — and Cade Donahue and Jacob Urdiera Villela once for the Panthers (9-5-1, 6-3)
