HOLMEN — The Holmen High School volleyball team clinched no worse than a share of the MVC championship with a 25-18, 25-11, 25-10 victory over visiting Central at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse on Thursday.
The Vikings (22-0 overall, 9-0 MVC) have a three-match lead over second-place Onalaska (6-3) with three matches left after completing a regular-season sweep of the RiverHawks (12-12, 4-5) and winning their 12th straight conference match.
Senior Hadley Teff led Holmen with seven kills, and senior teammate Brenna Schmidt added six. Seniors Makenna McHugh and Sadie Mayer each had 14 assists, and senior Macy Kline led the way with seven digs for Holmen, which is ranked sixth in Division 1 by state coaches.
McHugh added six digs and Mayer seven services aces and five digs.
Central was led by five-kill performances from Ellie Gillitzer and Kaitlyn Borge. Gillitzer also had nine digs and three aces, while Celia Christopherson led the RiverHawks with 13 digs.
Caledonia 3, Lewiston-Altura 0
LEWISTON — The Warriors, ranked sixth in Class AA by state coaches, beat the Cardinals 25-14, 25-21, 25-20.
Kensey King had eight kills and two blocks for Caledonia, which also received seven kills, three aces and five digs from Ashlyn Reinhart.
Avery Augedahl had 26 assists to go with seven digs, and Aubrey Klug led the Warriors (17-3, 8-0) with 18 digs.
Elsa Blum added five kills and six digs and Paizley Lange, Adrienne Lange and Augedahl four kills each.
Onalaska 3, Tomah 0
ONALASKA — The second-place Hilltoppers (17-8, 6-3) had little trouble with the Timberwolves (12-14, 3-5) and handed them a 25-16, 25-10, 25-14 loss.
Senior Makena McGarry and junior Kendall Carlson had seven kills apiece for Onalaska, which also received a team-high 18 digs from sophomore Mckenzie Bauer.
Freshman Isabella Eckstein led the Hilltoppers with 16 assists, sophomore Kayla Ketelhut added nine digs and four aces, and Carlson had two blocks.
Aquinas 3, Logan 1
LA CROSSE — The Blugolds pulled away for a 25-15, 18-25, 25-22, 25-10 victory over the Rangers at the Steve Hole Field House.
Senior Sammy Davis had 29 kills for Aquinas (9-12, 4-4), which beat Logan (3-10, 0-8) in five sets the first time through the schedule. Davis also had 11 digs, four blocks and three aces. Senior Kiersten Elskamp added 10 kills and five blocks and junior Angel Miller two to go with five blocks.
Junior Adi Bezemek had 44 assists, five digs and one block.
Logan was led by senior Kaia DePaolo’s 20 kills and 12 digs. Sophie Schmitz had nine kills and Norah Keller a team-high 18 assists to go with four digs. Meredith Zellner had four kills, three digs and four aces.
Alma/Pepin 3, Melrose-Mindoro 0
MELROSE — The Mustangs dropped a 25-18, 25-22, 25-19 match at home.
Bella Rozek had a team-high 10 kills, while Opal Buchanan led the way in assists with 15 and Anna Radcliffe topped the team in digs with 14.
