Thursday volleyball report: First-place Holmen remains unbeaten with sweep of Onalaska

ONALASKA — The Holmen High School volleyball team continued an unbeaten season by taking down Onalaska by scores of 25-16, 25-8, 25-9 in an MVC match on Thursday.

The Vikings (12-0 overall, 5-0 MVC), who are ranked eighth in Division 1by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association, were led by senior Charley Casey’s 13 kills, senior Makenna McHugh’s 15 assists and senior Sadie Mayer’s 14 assists.

Junior Moira Linse added nine kills and senior Macy Kline eight digs for Holmen.

The Hilltoppers (7-4, 1-3) were led by 12 digs from sophomore Kayla Ketelhut and 11 digs from sophomore Mackenzie Bauer.

Freshman Isabella Eckstein had nine assists and senior Zoe Koonce O’Kane four kills and three blocks for Onalaska.

Central 3, Sparta 2

LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks took over when it counted the most for a 25-23, 26-24, 9-25, 23-25, 15-4 victory over the Spartans at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium.

Junior McKenna Michaels had 12 kills and junior Ellie Gillitzer 32 digs, 13 assists and four service aces for Central (9-7, 2-2), which has won three straight matches. Junior Mady Young added 24 digs for the RiverHawks.

Onalaska Luther 3, Arcadia 1

ONALASKA — The Knights (8-2, 3-1) got back on the right track after a loss to Westby and won for the third time in four matches.

Sophomore Tessa Gloede had a team-high 15 kills, and sophomore Cara Unke added 14 for Luther, which posted a 25-22, 25-27, 25-19, 27-25 victory.

Junior setter Addie Schaper had 30 assists and sophomore Carsyn Krause 24 digs for the Knights, who also received 17 digs from sophomore Natalie Hackbarth and 13 from senior Kamryn Anderson.

Senior Kayla Schiebel had eight kills, sophomore Audrey Clark six kills, Schaper nine digs and Gloede and Schiebel five blocks apiece to go with junior Addy Palubicki’s five service aces.

Melrose-Mindoro 3, Augusta 2

AUGUSTA — The Mustangs (3-5, 1-0) started their Dairyland Conference season with a 7-25, 25-20, 25-16, 19-25, 15-10 victory.

Junior Bella Rozek had a team-high 18 kills and tied senior Anna Radcliffe with three service aces for Melrose-Mindoro.

Senior Cooper Zeman had 11 kills, and seniors Opal Buchanan and Abby Heimdahl led the Mustangs in assists.
