WIAA state track: Four quick medals won by Coulee Region athletes on second day

LA CROSSE — The first couple of hours at the second day of the WIAA state track and field tournament has resulted in four medals for athletes in the Coulee Region.

Holmen High School sophomore Lydia Lazarescu was timed at 11.89 seconds and lost the Division 1 championship in the 100-meter dash by one-hundredth of a second to Brookfield Central sophomore Kyenret Rinkam (11.88).

Holmen sophomore Jakai Ayed and Onalaska senior Ella Stevens picked up fifth-place medals in the Division 1 110 hurdles and 100 hurdles, respectively. Ayed was timed at 14.62 and Stevens at 15.12.

Onalaska Luther senior Jack Schmeling, who placed second i the Division 3 high jump on Friday, added a sixth-place medal to his haul with a school-record 156 feet, 11 inches in the Division 3 discus.
