LA CROSSE — The Aquinas High School boys tennis team followed up an unbeaten run through the MVC regular season with a win in its tournament Thursday at the Green Island Tennis Center.
The Blugolds crowned two singles champions and one doubles team a champ. Central had two doubles teams win, and Onalaska had a champ in singles play.
Anderson Fortney won at No. 1 singles and Mitchell Fortney at No. 2 singles for Aquinas.
Anderson Fortney received a first-round bye and beat both of his opponents by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Mitchell Fortney won his semifinal matchup 6-2, 6-0 before turning a 6-0, 6-0 victory into a win of his bracket.
The Blugolds also received a second-place finish from Teghan Schott and Jaedan Silcox at No. 1 doubles.
Onalaska’s Gavin Sommerfield won all three of his No. 3 singles matches in straight sets.
Central’s Drake Wonderling and Mitchell Lund teamed up to win the first doubles flight. The two had to go three sets to win its semifinal before beating Aquinas’ Scott and Silcox 7-6 (4), 6-4 in a tight championship match.
Central’s team of Henry Hanson and Gavin Gregas are winners at No. 2 doubles after winning both of its matchups in straight sets.
