Thursday boys basketball report: Onalaska knocks off Central in OT; Holmen scores 95

ONALASKA — The Onalaska High School boys basketball team scored seven of the 10 in overtime to hand Central a 47-43 MVC loss at the Chuck Deeth Fieldhouse on Thursday.

The Hilltoppers (16-7, 8-4) pulled away from the RiverHawks (13-8, 7-4) when sophomore Brendan Chenault made one free throw to break the tie, and freshman Tyler Kowal followed with four more after the teams went to overtime tied at 40.

Tyler and Ian Kowal scored 14 points apiece to lead Onalaska, which moved into third place in the conference and dropped Central to fourth. Aquinas (19-2, 8-2) still leads and is followed by Holmen (16-5, 7-3). The Hilltoppers have finished their conference schedule.

Junior Joey Pretasky had 12 points and senior Frankie Wilk 10 for Central, which received just two points from its bench. Sophomore Anthony Jones had nine points and eight rebounds.

Holmen 95, La Crescent-Hokah 71

LA CRESCENT — Senior Kaiden Wilber made three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 29 points for the Vikings (16-5) as they won for the fifth time in six games.

Wilber made 12 of 21 shots and hit 9 of 12 inside the 3-point line. He also had three assists and three steals.

Junior Alex Berget added 23 points on 7-for-14 shooting and made all eight of his attempts from the foul line. Berget also had five steals and three assists.

Holmen scored 54 points in the first half and extended its 18-point lead by another eight in the second.
