High school sports: Holmen wins MVC gymnastics meet with season-best score

HOLMEN — The Holmen High School gymnastics team won its third MVC meet in as many tries by putting together a season-best score of 138.35 Monday at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse.

The Vikings received an impressive performance from senior Katie Lange, who was the all-around winner with a score of 36.7 that beat Sparta runner-up Gabrielle Bjorkman (36.525). Onalaska/Luther’s Eva Dryer was third (35.525), Sparta’s Ali Solberg fourth (34.25) and Central/Logan’s Elena Wagner fifth (34.15).

Onalaska/Luther was second among teams with a score of 132.975. Sparta was third (132.575), Central/Logan fourth (124.7) and Tomah fifth (119.575).

Lange won the floor exercise (9.525), balance beam (9.4) and tied for the top score on bars (8.75). She added a second-place finish on the vault (9.025). Dryer tied Lange for the best score on the bars (8.75) and was second on the floor exercise (9.45) and third on the balance beam (9.025).

Ava Amundson added a third-place finish and score of 9.35 on the floor for Holmen, which had three of the top six in that event. Molly McBride was sixth (9.125).

McBride was also fourth on the beam 8.725, while Wagner was third on the vault (8.5) and fifth on the beam (8.7).

Onalaska/Luther’s Allison Komperud tied for third on the bars (8.65), and Central/Logan’s Danika Parnell tied for fourth on the floor exercise (9.2).
