Friday softball: Onalaska gets home sweep behind 16 hits and Kraus pitching

ONALASKA — The Onalaska High School softball team rebounded from a tough loss to Tomah on Thursday with a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Eau Claire Memorial on Friday.

The Hilltoppers beat the Old Abes 6-0, 8-4 as pitcher Sydney Kraus struck out 14 and allowed four hits over 9 1/3 innings.

Onalaska (15-9) backed that up with 14 runs on 16 hits and has won four of its past five games.

Kraus pitched a four-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts in the first game before throwing 2 1/3 hitless innings with three strikeouts in the second.

The Hilltoppers scored four runs in the first three innings of the opener. Right fielder MJ Heit hit a solo home run — her ninth of the season — in the third inning, and catcher Claire Weigel drove in one run in the second and one in the sixth.

First baseman Zoey Lichty and third baseman Zoe Koonce-O’Kane both doubled, and Heit stole two bases in the shutout.

Heit doubled twice while going 2 for 3 in the second game.

Center fielder Cayenne Zinnecker and second baseman Kylie Gilhausen both recorded two hits and two runs driven in.

West Salem 9, Logan 4

LA CROSSE — The Panthers (18-3) scored three runs in the second inning and three in the third to send themselves toward victory against the Rangers (8-13).

Catcher Brylee Vick was 3 for 4 with a double and drove in a run for West Salem, which also received a 2-for-3 performance from shortstop Parker Powell that included triple, an RBI and three runs scored.

Five West Salem batters were hit by pitches, and center fielder Brooklyn Lee drove in two runs.

Senior Josie Brudos struck out 10, walked one and allowed two earned runs on seven hits.

Pitcher Emma Bacon and shortstop Norah Keller both had two hits for Logan, which was within 6-4 after a two-run fifth but gave up three runs in the top of the seventh.

Cannon Falls 1, Caledonia 0

CANNON FALLS — The Warriors (21-2) had a 17-game winning streak snapped on the final night of the regular season.

The Bombers scored on a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, and Caledonia finished with seven hits. Caledonia pitcher Avery Augedahl struck out 12, walked one and allowed one walk and one earned run to go with six hits over six innings.

The Warriors had their best chance to score in the sixth when first baseman Elsa Blum tripled with one out. Nora Staggemeyer followed with a bunt and reached safely. Courtesy runner Adrienne Lange stole second to put two runners in scoring position, but a strikeout and pop out ended the inning.

Lily Augedahl added a double for Caledonia.

Eau Claire North 9, Central 0
