Friday track and field: Holmen girls, West Salem boys win team titles at Sporty Salsman

GALESVILLE — The Holmen High School girls track and field team and West Salem boys team won championships at the Sporty Salsman Invitational on Friday.

The Vikings won with 142.5 points and beat runner-up West Salem (127) and third-place Viroqua (71). Logan was fifth (56) and Melrose-Mindoro sixth (46).

The Panthers accumulated 186 points in the boys competition to beat second-place Holmen (105) and third-place G-E-T (89). Logan was fourth (82) and Melrose-Mindoro eighth (31).

West Salem’s boys were anchored by nine event victories.

Sophomore Tavaryies Henderson led the way with victories in the high jump (6 feet) and triple jump (40-4).

Jack Torrance won the 110-meter hurdles (16.42 seconds), and Michael Torrance won the 800 (2:02.36).
Teammates Evan Berra (1,600, 4:32.02), Josiah Wolbrink (400, 53.59), Kayden Langrehr (long jump, 19-3 1/2) and Isaiah Laack (shot put, 53-1) also won events for the Panthers, who crossed the finish line first in the 400 relay in 43.58.

Logan’s Briggs Schaffer won the pole vault (12-6), and the Rangers won the 1,600 relay (3:35.69). Holmen’s boys won the 800 relay (1:31.86).

Holmen’s girls had wins in five events and were led by senior Brenna Schmidt, who won the shot put (37-6) and discus (120-0).

Abry Bloyer won the 100 (12.3), Lydia Lazarescu the 200 (25.58) and the 400 relay was timed with a winning 49.25.

West Salem senior Olivia Maki joined Schmidt as a double winner with victories in the 100 hurdles (15.9) and 300 hurdles (46.78).

Other local girls winning events were Logan’s Lilly Dettwiler (triple jump, 34-5) and Melrose-Mindoro’s Bristol Coats (long jump, 16-2).

Caledonia/Spring Grove Triangular

CALEDONIA — Central was the boys champion, and La Crescent-Hokah won the girls team title.
Caledonia/Spring Grove was second in the girls competition and third in the boys.

The RiverHawks received boys victories from Eli Eubanks (200, 23.67), Isaiah Hundt-Fiksdal (800, 2:21.7), Channing Erickson (1,600, 5:13.38), Landon Goodman (high jump, 5-2), D’Artagnan Wilk (triple jump, 35-6) and its 400 (50.42), 800 (1:48.28) and 1,600 (4:07.91) relay teams.

The Warriors had boys winners in Coby Hammell (100, 11.23), Rae’Shaun Smith (discus, 105-7), Seth Kauffmann (long jump, 18-10) and Noah Heppner (shot put, 39-5 1/2) and girls wins from Finley Wait (100, 12.88), Beth Myhre (high jump, 3-8), Emilyn Doering (truple jump, 31-3 3/4) and their 800 (1:53.07) and 3,200 (12:26.64) relays.

West Allis Hale Distance Night

WEST ALLIS — Holmen senior Sabrina Lechnir placed 13th in the girls varsity 1,600 with a time of 5:08.02.
Casey Horman was also 20th (1:58.89) and Josiah Kulmaczewski 43rd (2:02.1) in the boys varsity 800 for the Vikings.

Holmen’s Carter Sinn ran the freshman 1,600 and finished fifth (4:42.21).
