Tuesday baseball: Melrose-Mindoro erupts for another one-sided victory

AUGUSTA — The Melrose-Mindoro High School scored at least four runs in three innings on the way to a 16-8 Dairyland Conference victory at Augusta on Tuesday.

Shortstop Colton Koss was 3 for 4 with two walks, two runs driven in and a stolen base for the Mustangs (6-0), who have outscored their opponents 66-10.

Melrose-Mindoro recovered from a 4-2 deficit with four runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth. A five-run seventh gave them some breathing room.

Left fielder Jacob Thesing was 2 for 2 with a double, two runs scored and two driven in, third baseman Eric Herzberg was 2 for 5 with a triple, and center fielder Brett Peterson was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Peterson and Isaiah Kleinsmith each had two stolen bases, and Kleinsmith scored three runs.

Chatfield 6, Caledonia 4

CHATFIELD — The Warriors (5-2) lost their second game in a row but led this one 3-0 after two innings.

Left fielder Cooper Allen was 2 for 3 with a double, and first baseman Jack Schmitz went 2 for 4. Pitcher/third baseman Max Schmitz scored twice and hit a solo home run.
