Saturday gymnastics: West Salem co-op third at 10-team Madison Memorial invitational

MADISON — The West Salem co-op gymnastics team placed third at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Madison Memorial on Saturday.

The Panthers, who also have competitors from Aquinas and Bangor on the roster, recorded a team score of 139.0 and finished behind the Verona co-op (141.3) and Stevens Point (139.025) in a 10-team competition.

Senior Olivia Maki was second on the vault with a 9.3 to lead the co-op individual performances. Senior Camdyn Lyga was also fifth on the floor exercise with a 9.2.

Lyga was also 10th on the vault (8.9), and Maki tied for 19th on the floor (8.9). Brielle Moore was 11th overall and led the Panthers with her all-around score of 34.3.

La Crosse Candyland Invitational

LA CROSSE — The Onalaska co-op placed third with a team score of 130.375, and the Logan/Central co-op was fifth with a 121.425 in an eight-team invitational held at Performance Elite Gymnastics.

Logan/Central senior Elena Wagner was the top local in the all-around with her third-place score of 34.65. Elin Gilles led the Hilltoppers with a 33.425, which was 11th.

The top local individual performance came from Onalaska’s Claire Fortun, who was third on the balance beam with an 8.75.

Wagner was fourth on the beam (8.65) and added a fifth on the vault (8.65), fifth on the uneven bars (8.55) and sixth on the floor (8.8).

Gilles was seventh on the bars with an 8.45 and seventh on the vault with an 8.55.
