LA CROSSE — West Salem High School junior Jonathon Gehrke was a double winner at a Western Wisconsin ski meet held at Mount La Crosse on Wednesday.
Gehrke, participating for the co-op that includes Aquinas, Onalaska, West Salem and Luther, won a pair of slalom races with times of 23.36 and 22.24 seconds. He beat second-place Keya Lee of Central/Logan (23.77) in the first race and teammate Peyton Oelfke (23.39) in the second.
Oelfke was also third in the first race with a time of 24.01, and the Aquinas co-op claimed team victories in both races. The team posted a score of 15 in the first race and 13 in the second.
The teams split two snowboard competitions with the Central/Logan team scoring nine points in the first and Aquinas scoring nine in the second.
Wesley Olson won the first race for Central/Logan with his time of 36.16, and Braxton Wiczek won the second for Aquinas/Onalaska with a 36.44. Wiczek was also runner-up in the first race (37.18), and teammate Ryan Nummerdor Robles was runner-up in the second (36.52).
The girls ski races were both won by Northern with 11 points. Aquinas/Onalaska was second in both and Central/Logan third.
Alyssa Raven won the first race in 24.36 and teammate Emelia Berg the second in 23.39. Berg was runner-up in the first race (24.63) and Raven runner-up in the second (24.07).
Julia McBride, also skiing for Norther, was third in both with times of 25.72 and 24.44.
Aquinas/Onalaska’s Brynn Grabowski was fourth in both races with a 26.31 in the first and 24.76 in the second.
Aquinas/Onalaska won both snowboard team races with nine points in the first and eight in the second.
Central/Logan’s Avah Connaughty won the first in 35.01, and Aquinas/Onalaska’s London Vanderhorst won he second in 33.42. Connaughty was second in the second race (34.92), and Aquinas/Onalaska’s Jacee Erickson was second in the firts race (35.92).
