Monday girls basketball: Caledonia, Onalaska win one-sided nonconference games

CALEDONIA — The Caledonia High School girls basketball team pushed its winning streak to six games on Monday with a 65-37 nonconference victory over visiting Houston.

The Warriors (6-1) allowed the Hurricanes just 15 first-half points and made eight 3-pointers.

Senior Aubrie Klug made six 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Caledonia, which hasn’t lost since Nov. 21 and hosts Holmen (3-3) on Thursday.

Senior Nicole Banse added 16 points with two 3s, and Kensey King scored 10 for the Warriors, who had nine players score.

Onalaska 55, Hillsboro 23

HILLSBORO — The Hilltoppers (5-2) picked up their third victory in a row as they prepare to host Aquinas (6-1) in a 7:15 p.m. game Thursday.

Onalaska outscored the Tigers by 32 points in the second half after the teams went to halftime tied at 12.

Junior Finley Walters made four 3-pointers and junior Olivia Passehl three, and five of those came after halftime. Walters finished with a team-high 14 points, and Passehl added nine.

Sophomore Kayla Ketelhut added 12 points and junior Natalie Marso 11 for Onalaska, which has consecutive wins over Logan, Blair-Taylor and Hillsboro heading into the game against the Blugolds and their 116-game MVC win streak.

Alma/Pepin 40, Melrose-Mindoro 38

MELROSE — The Mustangs (2-4, 2-4 Dairyland-Large) were outscored by seven points in the second half on their way to a third straight loss.

Senior forward Calysta Bautch scored a team-high 16 points for Melrose-Mindoro, which had a 21-16 halftime lead. Bautch made a 3-pointer in the first half and scored nine points in the second half.

Senior teammate Anna Radcliffe added 10 points for the Mustangs. She made two 3-pointers to run her season total to 19.
