The Onalaska High School boys basketball team didn’t get to open its season with a high-profile nonconference game against Kimberly on Saturday due to weather, but it found its way to a spot among the top 10 Division 2 teams in the first Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll that was released on Monday.
Aquinas also has yet to play and is sixth in Division 3.
The Hilltoppers are sixth in a division that is led by Wauwatosa West (1-0). Slinger (0-0), Milwaukee Academy of Science (1-0), Nicolet (0-1) and Waukesha Catholic Memorial (1-0) follow in the second, third, fourth and fifth positions.
Onalaska is scheduled to host Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday.
Racine St. Catherine’s is the No. 1 team in Division 3. Racine Lutheran (0-0), Freedom (1-0), Oostburg (1-0) and Seymour (0-0) follow St. Cat’s and are ahead of Aquinas. The Blugolds open their season at Neillsville on Tuesday.
Aquinas (2-1) and Central (1-0) hold the same positions they were given during last week’s first Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports girls poll.
The Blugolds, who have played nothing but ranked opponents, is ninth in Division 3 after beating last week’s Division 2 No 1 Madison Edgewood for their second straight victory. Aquinas hosts Bangor on Tuesday.
The RiverHawks, who host Marshfield on Tuesday, are ninth in Division 2 on the strength of a season-opening win over West Salem.
The polls had 13 voters from around the state this week and includes a ballot in each cast by couleesports.com.
