BEAVER DAM — The Aquinas High School girls basketball team started its season with a 70-61 loss to Kettle Moraine Lutheran during the first day of the Beaver Dam Classic on Friday.
The Blugolds (0-1) play Stevens Point Pacelli (1-0) on Saturday, were led by senior Sammy Davis and her 25 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists.
Junior guards Eve Willenbring and Ava Fernholz both added 13 on a tough shooting night for Aquinas, which made 4 of 21 3-point attempts and 22 of 60 overall shots in the loss to a team that won 25 games and advanced to the WIAA sectional finals.
Willenbring made three 3-pointersand had three assists, and Fernholz and senior Alaina Elias had four steals each. The Blugolds did have 18 steals but couldn’t overcome 23 turnovers.
Rochester Lourdes 63, Caledonia 57
ROCHESTER — The Warriors (0-1) couldn’t get out of a 16-point deficit after the first half in their opener.
Senior Aubrie Klug scored a team-high 19 points, but Lourdes held Caledonia to 18 first-half points.
Senior Kensey King added 13 points, sophomore Bayla King 10 and senior Nicole Banse nine for the Warriors.
Blair-Taylor 48, Melrose-Mindoro 44
BLAIR — Senior Anna Radcliffe scored a team-high 15 points for the Mustangs (1-1).
Radcliffe made three of her team’s six 3-pointers and scored 10 of her points in the first half. Senior Cooper Zeman also made three 3s and finished with 11 points for the Mustangs.
The Wildcats led 19-18 after one half and outscored Melrose-Mindoro by three in the second half.
Prairie du Chien 44, Logan 27
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — The Rangers played without top scorer Lydia Mason and were held to 11 first-half points.
Senior Kaia DePaolo finished with a team-high 14 points for Logan in its first game, and she had seven points in each half. Eight of those points came from the foul line.
