WEST SALEM — The Coulee Region girls hockey team scored once in the second period but couldn’t overcome allowing four goals in the first in a 7-1 loss to Winona at the Panther Den on Monday.
The Winhawks scored all of their first-period goals in a span of 5 minutes, 46 seconds to take control of the Cyclones (1-2-1) before they got on the board for the first goal of the second period.
Junior forward Elly Binsfeld scored that goal with an assist from senior Mallory Long. The goal was Binsfeld’s first and the assist Long’s first.
The Cyclones were outshot 26-19 as they tried to put together a two-game win streak following a 5-0 win over Viroqua on Tuesday. They host Eau Claire at the Panther Den in a 7 p.m. game Thursday.
