MADISON — Seven local competitors — three from Aquinas High School and two from the G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro co-op — have qualified for Friday’s semifinal round at the WIAA individual state wrestling tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Aquinas junior Tyson Martin (42-2), a two-time Division 3 state runner-up already, needed just 1 minute, 7 seconds to score 17 points a d win by technical fall over Spring Valley/Elmwood’s Jack Steinmeyer (43-10) in the 215-pound quarterfinal bout and is one victory away from a third chance at a championship.

Junior teammate Roger Flege (45-3) also needed to wrestle just once on Thursday after receiving a first-round bye in the 132 backet, and he took care of Oconto’s Tyler Beekman by technical fall in 3:36 to earn his spot in the semifinals.

Senior Trevor Paulson (40-10) had to wrestle twice at 150 but gave the Blugolds another semifinalist with a 13-4 major decision over Omro’s Logan Carley (36-11) and a 4-1 decision over Brock Hinderman (35-8) of Iowa-Grant/Highland.

Also still alive in consolation brackets for Aquinas are Lincoln Stanek (37-10, 106), Martez Sheard (39-5, 120), Tyler Paulson (36-11, 126), Waylon Hargrove (35-8, 157) and Will Flottmeyer (19-6, 285).

Stanek, Sheard, Hargrove and Flottmeyer won their opening matches on Thursday but were knocked out of the championship bracket with quarterfinal losses.

The Titans will be represented in the Division 2 semifinal round by junior Colton Koss and senior Gunnar Johnson.

Koss (44-2) beat Lodi’s Bryer Caves (42-16) by a 17-7 score in their 120-pound quarterfinal. Koss received a first-round bye.

Johnson (49-7) advanced with two wins at 157. He first pinned Two Rivers’ Derek Klinkner (18-9) in 1:10, then pinned Baldwin-Woodville’s Taden Holldorf (39-5) in 5:06 during their quarterfinal bout.

G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro also still has Koda Purney (46-9), 113) and Aaron Dunigan (49-8, 215) alive on the consolation side after first-round victories and quarterfinal defeats.

Two area semifinalists remain in Division 1, and they are Logan/Central senior Jayden Delao and West Salem/Bangor junior Teghan Moore.

Delao (35-4) blew through both of his opponents at 190 with a pin and major decision. He pinned Milwaukee Bradley Tech’s Christian Wright (18-9) in 1:38, then blanked Pulaski’s Ander Servais (42-7) 11-0 in the quarterfinals.

Moore (51-3) advanced at 106 with one pin and an impressive victory during an all-local quarterfinal. Moore pinned Brookfield East’s Colin Seifert (34-11) in 3:30 before matching up with Holmen freshman Rex Lancaster (44-6) in the quarterfinal round. Moore won that match 6-2 to earn a semifinal bout.
