GALESVILLE — The West Salem High School girls basketball team clinched at least a share of the Coulee Conference championship with a 90-27 victory at G-E-T on Tuesday.
The Panthers (18-4, 11-0), who are ranked eighth in Division 2, scored 53 points in the first half against the Red Hawks (2-21, 1-10).
Senior and Winona State commit Megan Johnson scored 17 of her game-high 26 points in the first half as West Salem completed its regular-season sweep of G-E-T.
Junior teammate Josie Brudos made four 3-pointers and added 21 points for the Panthers, who have won seven of their last eight games and play at second-place Luther (17-5, 10-1) on Thursday for the chance at an outright conference title.
Eleven players scored for West Salem, and freshman Anna Witte added an 11-point performance.
Logan 54, Richland Center 37
LA CROSSE — The Rangers (6-18) have a two-game winning streak for the first time this season after holding the Hornets to 12 points in the first half at the Steve Hole Field House.
Logan will look for win No. 3 in a row when it hosts Tomah (1-22) in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday. The Rangers beat the Timberwolves twice during the regular season.
Junior Lydia Mason scored 15 of her game-high 24 points in the first half and was one of nine players who scored for the Rangers. Sophomore Lilly Dettwiler also scored eight points for Logan, which will try to open the postseason with a win over Tomah for the second straight year.
Luther 81, Viroqua 38
VIROQUA — The Knights (17-5, 10-1) won to give them a chance to win a share of the Coulee title when they host West Salem on Thursday.
Senior Macie Neumeister made three of Luther’s seven 3-pointers and scored a team-high 22 points. She also made 7 of 10 free throws and had three steals.
Senior Allie Zittel added 16 points as one of her team’s 10 scorers. Zittel made two 3s and had two steals. Freshman Cara Unke added 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Senior Payton Holub also had nine points for the Knights, who have won four of their last five games.
Eau Claire Memorial 61, Central 29
LA CROSSE — The Old Abes (21-2) outscored the RiverHawks (17-6) 36-8 in the second half at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium.
Junior Alahnna Simpson scored 13 points for Central, but just two of them were in the second half as Memorial pulled away. She kept the RiverHawks within 25-21 after one half.
Sophomore Ellie Gillitzer added nine points, and her 3-pointers was one of two Central field goals in the second half.
The RiverHawks close out their regular season by hosting Onalaska on Friday.
Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 73, Aquinas 70
LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (19-4), ranked fourth in Division 4, were knocked off by the state’s top-ranked Division 5 team at the Reinhart Athletic Complex.
Assumption had a 17-point halftime lead that Aquinas eventually chopped to one late in the second half, but senior Sarah Shaw went 6 for 6 on free throws down the stretch t complete a 21-point performance.
Junior Sammy Davis scored 30 points on 12-for-20 shooting and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Blugolds, who had an 18-game winning streak come to an end and close out the regular season by hosting Sparta on Thursday.
Senior Emma Dobbins scored all 10 of her points after halftime, and sophomores Oliva Passehl and Ava Fernholz each added nine. Passehl made three 3-pointers, and Fernholz had seven rebounds and five assists.
