Tuesday ASL report: Mayer scores in OT to give Central a win over Holmen; West Salem gets goals from five players

HOLMEN — The Central High School ASL floor hockey team didn’t have anyone ready to come off the bench on Tuesday, but its starters were up to the challenge they received from Holmen.

The RiverHawks received two goals from Joe Mayer — one in the first period and one in over time — to emerge with a 2-1 victory over the Vikings.

Callie Reinhart assisted on Mayer’s first goal, and Central heled that 1-0 lead until late in the third. The RiverHawks had more scoring chances set up by passes from Thomas Spah but couldn’t convert because Holmen’s Carter Van Lin stopped just about everything sent his way with 19 saves.

Karsen Nelson scored to tie the game with 2 minutes left in regulation.

The defense of Andrew Bell and his consistent ability to clear the puck kept the Vikings in the game. He received solid help from teammates Logan Rastall, Josie Columbia and Gabriella Villareal in getting the puck out of the scoring zone.

Dominic Dolan, Callie Reinhart and Josh Hass did the same for Central in front of AJ Morris, who had 41 saves.

West Salem 5, Black River Falls 2

WEST SALEM — Eli Greil, Levi Wulf, Lexi Randall, Luci Bakke and Colton Buisman all scored once for the Panthers, and Buisman scored the first goal of his career.

West Salem coach Ashly Serres said part of her team’s focus was to both win the game and help their younger counterparts from Black River Falls as they learn the game. She was also happy with the way her team spread its success around the court and gave many players scoring chances.

West Salem’s Austin Dewster played in goal for the first time and helped his team get the victory.
