Monday sports report: Holmen boys basketball team runs win streak to four games

NEW RICHMOND — The Holmen High School boys basketball team scored more than 80 points for the third straight game on Monday.

The Vikings (8-2) also ran their winning streak to four games with an 83-74 nonconference victory at New Richmond.

Holmen made 12 of 29 attempts from the 3-point line and knocked down 21 of 27 free throws. The Vikings scored 47 points in the second half.

Senior Kaiden Wilber scored a team-high 23 points on 8-for-14 shooting and led the team with six rebounds. Holmen had four scorers reach double figures and six players make at least one 3-pointer.

Senior Keenan Eisermann added 18 points and made 7 of 9 free throws to go with a team-high five assist. Junior Alex Berget and senior Tristan Hanson both scored 12 points. Hanson made four 3-pointers on five attempts.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Eleva-Strum 58, Arcadia 34

ARCADIA — The Raiders (7-6) were held to 11 points in the first half and were denied their chance at a second straight victory by the Cardinals (9-3).

Sophomore Madison Grotjahn scored nine of her team-high 11 points in the second half and made 7 of 9 free throws as Arcadia made 10 total field goals.

Adella Anderson added seven points and Joselyn Lockington six for the Raiders, who play at Black River Falls on Thursday. The Raiders beat the Tigers 57-42 the first time they played this season.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Wisconsin Valley 2, Coulee Region 1

WAUPACA — The Cyclones (3-10-1) scored first but allowed two goals in the third period.

Diana Hanson had 32 saves, but Wisconsin Valley scored twice in a seven-minute span in the third to tie the game and take the lead. Campbell Spees scored unassisted for the victory at the 16-minute mark.

West Salem senior MaKenna Olson scored on a power play with an assist from Onalaska senior Gianna Sanchez at 6:31 in the first for Coulee Region. It was Olson’s first goal and Sanchez’s fifth assist.
