ROCHESTER — The first six matches of the Caledonia/Houston boys wrestling team’s MSHSL Section 1A semifinal dual against Goodhue went just fine, but the final seven were another story.
The third-seeded Warriors, who won their quarterfinal bout on Thursday, dropped a 42-20 matchup to the second-seeded Wildcats at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center on Saturday.
Caledonia/Houston won four of the first six bouts and forced a 14-14 tie when senior Hunter Frank won a major decision at 139 pounds.
But Goodhue, who was then beaten 33-31 by top-seeded Chatfield in the finals, won six of the final seven matchups — with pins in four of them — to advance.
Eighth-grader Kiptyn Meiners (23-12, 107 pounds), senior Aiden Burns (24-8, 121), eighth-grader Nolan Conway (8-21, 133), Frank and senior Will Allen (33-2, 172) all won matches for the Warriors.
Allen was the only Caledonia/Houston wrestler to earn a pin.
