Thursday gymnastics/hockey: Holmen second at MVC gymnastics meet

SPARTA — The Holmen High School gymnastics team placed second in an MVC meet hosted by Sparta on Thursday.

The Vikings had won all previous conference meets this season, but Sparta’s collective score of 132.175 beat Holmen’s 130.675.

Onalaska’s co-op was third (128.75), and Logan/Central was fourth (122.775).

Logan/Central senior Elena Wagner was the top all-around performer for local schools with her second-place finish and score of 34.175. Holmen’s Ava Amundson was fourth (32.7) and Onalaska’s Elin Gilles fifth (32.65).

Amundson was second to Sparta’s Gabrielle Bjorkman — the all-around winner (37.1) and winner of every individual event — in both the floor exercise (9.4) and vault (8.6).

The best local event was the balance beam with Holmen’s Faith Genz and Onalaska’s Claire Fortun tied for second at 8.6, Wagner fourth (8.2), Onalaska’s Maggie Li fifth (8.05) and Holmen’s Carly Nelson sixth (8.025).

Wagner was also third on the floor exercise (9.3), fourth on the uneven bars (8.25) and sixth on the vault (8.425).

Holmen’s Maija Kolpitcke was third on the vault (8.55) and Onalaska’s Allison Komperud was third on the uneven bars (8.375).

LA CRESCENT — Junior Kayden Tauscher scored in the first period, and senior Coen Knutson scored in the third for the Panthers (1-15-1).

Cade Donahue assisted on Tauscher’s goal, and Joey Hermanson assisted on Knutson’s.

Cooper Hill scored four goals for the Lancers.
