WEST SALEM — The West Salem co-op gymnastics teams nearly pulled off a clean sweep of championships during an eight-team invitational it hosted at West Salem High School on Saturday.
The Panthers had the winner in three of the four individual events and had the top three all-around performers on the way to a winning team score of 140.45 in the West Salem Throw Back Invitational.
Senior Camdyn Lyga posted the top all-around score of 35.0 and won the floor exercise with a 9.5 to lead the team performance, which was well ahead of the second-place G-E-T co-op’s score of 133.075 and third-place Southwestern’s 130.4.
The Central/Logan co-op placed fifth with a 121.375.
Lyga was also second on the balance beam (8.9), fifth in the vault (8.5), sixth on the uneven bars (8.1) during a big day for her team.
Grace Olson won the uneven bars (8.6) and was second all-around with a 34.85. She was also third on the vault (8.6), fifth on the floor exercise (9.1) and sixth on the balance beam (8.55).
Senior Olivia Maki also won the vault for the Panthers with a 9.125 and was third on the balance beam (8.8).
Brielle Moore was third all-around for West Salem’s co-op, which also includes Aquinas and Bangor. Moore’s 34.775 was anchored by runner-up finishes on the floor exercise (9.35), vault (8.7) and uneven bars (8.575). She also scored an 8.15 on the balance beam.
Central/Logan senior Elena Wagner was fifth all-around (34.225). She tied for third on the uneven bars (8.4) and was sixth with her floor exercise (9.075).
Chippewa Falls Snowflake Invitational
CHIPPEWA FALLS — Holmen was fifth and the Onalaska co-op sixth in a meet that included 10 teams and was won by Eau Claire Memorial’s co-op with a 136.7.
The Vikings had a team score of 128.3 and the Hilltoppers a 124.7.
Holmen’s Ava Amundson was the top local performer in the all-around with a 32.525 that was good for eighth place. Teammate Carly Nelson followed in ninth (32.15).
Nelson had the top individual finish among local teams with her third place on the uneven bars (8.6).
Holmen’s Maija Kolpitcke was fourth on the vault (8.85), Holmen’s Amundson fourth on the balance beam (8.875) and Onalaska’s Claire Fortun eighth on the balance beam (8.55).
