Friday night football report (large schools): Central, Holmen, Onalaska, West Salem all win

TOMAH — Senior Christian Rudrud ran 18 times for 180 yards and four touchdowns as the RiverHawks helped set up a showdown for first place in the MVC next week with a 57-14 win at Tomah on Friday.

Rudrud rushed for one touchdown in the first quarter and three in the second as Central (5-2, 5-0) won its fifth game in a row heading into next week’s game at Holmen (7-0, 5-0), which pounded Baraboo 48-7 on Friday.

The RiverHawks followed up a six-point first quarter with 28 in the second for a 34-0 halftime lead. Rudrud, who rushed 42 yards for one of his touchdowns, also completed a 42-yard touchdown pass to Connor Groth in the second quarter as they pulled away from the Timberwolves (1-6, 1-4). Rudrud’s other touchdowns covered 18, 11 and 9 yards.

Groth finished with three catches for 65 yards, and Central ran up 495 total yards with 296 on the ground and 199 through the air.

The RiverHawks also recovered three of Tomah’s six fumbles.

Holmen 48, Baraboo 7

BARABOO — The first-place Vikings (7-0, 5-0) scored 42 points in the first quarter, and senior quarterback Colin Williams gained 155 yards and scored two touchdowns on just eight carries. He had scoring runs of 78 and 45 yards in the first quarter, which also included a kickoff return for a touchdown from junior John Faherty.

Senior Eli Kane added touchdown runs of 61 and 6 yards in the first quarter, and Jack Barth scored from 4 yards out to complete the touchdown barrage.

Sophomore Lucas Degner kicked a pair of 25-yard field goals in the second quarter, and Holmen held Baraboo to 27 total yards. The Thunderbirds gained 15 yards on 18 rushing attempts.

Senior AJ Alesch rushed for 93 yards on three carries and Barth 72 on four as the Vikings rushed for 376 yards as a team.

Onalaska 37, Sparta 10

SPARTA — The Hilltoppers (5-2, 3-2) remained two games behind the conference co-leaders with a big second half against the Spartans.

Sparta led 10-9 at the half before Onalaska pulled away in the third quarter.

Junior Kaeson Stettler rushed for touchdowns that covered 1, 17 and 8 yards in the third quarter as the Hilltoppers built their lead.

Senior quarterback Ian Kowal completed 13 of 19 passes for 165 yards and a first-quarter touchdown pass to Stettler. Senior Jackson Egan caught a touchdown pass and kicked a field goal for Onalaska.

Stettler finished with 24 carries and gained 118 yards. He had a hand in four touchdowns with the early catch from Kowal.

Junior Brendan Chenault also had a big interception that set up Stettler’s first touchdown of the third quarter and gave the Hilltoppers the lead.

Chenault had three catches for 83 yards and senior Luke Siegel six for 57.

West Salem 45, G-E-T 14

WEST SALEM — The Panthers (6-1, 5-0) won their sixth game in a row and scored four touchdowns in the first quarter against the Red Hawks (1-6, 1-4), who were trying to win their second game in a row.

Junior Lucas Fry scored two of the first-quarter touchdowns, and sophomore Kaden Langrehr added another. Junior quarterback Drew McConkey also took one of his carries 41 yards for a touchdown.

McConkey rushed for another touchdown in the second half, and sophomore Landon Wiegrefe kicked a 34-yard field goal.
