WEST SALEM — There was a battle between unbeaten ASL soccer teams at West Salem Middle School on Tuesday, and Holmen High School was the one that emerged victorious.
The Vikings scored all of their goals in the first half and withstood a West Salem/Bangor rally in the second to hold on for a 5-4 victory in a gym filled with energy and encouragement from spectators and players alike.
Kian Carlisle scored three times in the first 10 minutes to put Holmen in charge, and teammate Wade Schuster added one of his own for a 4-0 lead.
Levi Wulf then scored for West Salem/Bangor, but Karsen Nelson answered for the Vikings and gave them a 5-1 halftime advantage.
Cam Arndt, however, didn’t allow Holmen a goal in the second half, and Wulf added three goals for the Panthers to get them within the final score.
West Salem/Bangor had middle school volleyball teams in the gym to cheer and add to the excitement, and Holmen used defense from Gabriella Villarreal, Gabe Schams and Kai Rice to keep pressure off of goalkeeper Carter Van Lin.
