BARABOO — The West Salem High School girls basketball team’s bid at a third straight trip to the WIAA state tournament was stopped by Madison Edgewood on Saturday.
The Crusaders, who won the Division 3 championship last season, used a big second half to take care of the Panthers 67-42 in a Division 2 sectional final at Baraboo.
West Salem (22-5) was outscored by 15 points in the second half as a close game got away after halftime.
The Panthers scored the first eight points of the game and were within 14-11 in the first half before Edgewood psuhed the advantage to 29-19 by halftime.
Edgewood, which made 13 3-pointers, held West Salem senior Megan Johnson to six points in each half. Her 12 led the team as a five-game winning streak and two-year run to the Resch Center came to an end.
Sydney Quick added nine points and MacLaine Heilman six on two 3-pointers for the Panthers, who have a 94-16 record since the start of the 2021-22 season.
The Crusaders (27-1) were led by a 23-point performance from sophomore Anna Miller, who made three first-half 3-pointers. Sophomore Beanie Thompson added 15 for Edgewood.
