Saturday girls soccer: Central, Holmen and Aquinas all win shutouts; Wilkerson with 3 goals, 3 assists for RiverHawks

LA CROSSE — The Central High School girls soccer team started its season with a 6-0 nonconference victory over Reedsburg on Saturday.

The RiverHawks (1-0) scored three goals in the first half and three in the second in a game played at Logan’s Swanson Field.

Grace Wilkerson had a hand in every goal by finishing with three goals and three assits. Teammate Ellia Dale also scored twice to help goalkeeper Cam Woyczik record the shutout while stopping Reedsburg’s lone shot on goal.

Wil;kerson assisted on a goal by Mae Yang in the third minute before scoring her first goal unassisted in the 16th. She set up Dale for the 3-0 halftime lead in the 36th minute.

Wilkerson converted a penalty lick in the 52nd minute, scored with an assist from Yang in the 61st and assisted on Dale’s second goal in the 64th.

Holmen 2, River Falls 0

RIVER FALLS — The Vikings played their second state-ranked opponent this week and emerged victorious and recording a scoreless tie in their opener.

Sophomore Ava Rivera converted a penalty kick and scored with an assist from junior Lydia Sader in the second half to give Holmen (1-0-1) a win over the No. 6 team in the Division 2 state rankings released by the WSCA.

Rivera’s penalty kick came in the 47th minute, and he second came in the 51st and was set up by Sader’s 60-yard pass.

The Vikings started their season with a 0-0 game at fifth-ranked Sauk Prairie on Thursday and junior goalkeeper Moira Linse has recorded two shutouts.

Aquinas 2, Eau Claire North 0

EAU CLAIRE — Alexa Myre and Anna Binsfeld scored once each for the Blugolds (2-0) in a victory over Huskies.

Myre’s goal was assisted by Hannah Miller, and Binsfeld’s was assisted by Hayden Zehren in a game that included 18 shots on goal for Aquinas. North was held to two shots.
