Thursday track and field: Chenault a double winner for Hilltoppers at UW-Stout; Holmen girls and Onalaska boys place third

MENOMONIE — The Holmen High School girls and Onalaska boys track and field teams both placed third at the UW-Stout Elite Invitational on Thursday.

The Vikings finished with 59 points and finished behind Bloomer (87) and Menomonie (69) in a 28-team competition, and the Hilltoppers scored 48 and finished behind Osceola (90.5) and Menomonie (61) among 26 teams.

Onalaska’s girls were seventh (24) and West Salem’s 11th (20). West Salem’s boys were ninth (23) and Holmen’s 21st (4).

Onalaska junior Brendan Chenault was a double winner for the boys with victories in the long jump (22 feet) and triple jump (47-0.25), while junior teammate Gabe Mauss won the 400 meters (52.49 seconds) and place second to Chenault in the triple jump (44-0.5).

Holmen senior Lydia Lazarescu won the 55 (7.17), Onalaska senior Makena McGarry the long jump (18-0.5) and West Salem junior Isaiah Laack the shot put (55-1.5).

The Vikings also received runner-up finishes from Alivia Wickstrom in the 55 hurdles (8.83), senior Abry Bloyer in the 55 (7.21) and senior Brenna Schmidt in the shot put (39-6) in girls events.

West Salem senior Maia Hutchens also placed second in the pole vault (9-6).

Holmen senior Kendall Kozlowski (pole vault, 9-0) and junior Sophia Jacobson (high jump, 4-10) were both third as was Onalaska’s girls 1,600 relay (4:14.8).

West Salem senior Olivia Maki scored for her team in three events by finishing fourth in the 200 (27.92), fifth in the 55 hurdles (9.59) and eighth in the long jump (15-5.5), and senior teammate Jack Torrance was seventh in the 55 hurdles (8.95) and eighth in the high jump (5-9) for the boys.

Three boys and two girls recorded fourth-place finishes.

Onalaska senior Joshua Phillips (55 hurdles, 8.49), West Salem senior Cade Donahue (200, 23.42) and West Salem senior Elliot Wolf (shot put, 46-9) accomplished that feat on boys events, and Holmen sophomores Hadley Johnson (55, 7.72) and Ella Everson (pole vault, 8-0) for the girls.

Onalaska sophomore Sadie Peterson was fifth in the 800 (2:25.03), Holmen sophomore Aubrey Hauser sixth in the triple jump (31.5.25) and Onalaska sophomore Adam Kuhn sixth in the shot put (45-11.5).

Seventh-place finishes were recorded by Onalaska sophomore Wylder Burch (400, 54.04), Holmen senior Jack Barth (200, 23.65) and Holmen freshman Courtney Simmons (triple jump, 31-4.5), and Holmen junior Molly McBride was eighth in the 55 (7.89).
