WEST SALEM — The West Salem High School boys basketball team put the finishing touch on an unbeaten Coulee Conference championship — its seventh in a row — by beating Viroqua on Saturday.
The Panthers (20-3, 12-0) — ranked fifth in Division 2 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll — built a 26-point halftime lead and cruised from there until completing a 74-37 victory over visiting Viroqua.
Twelve West Salem players scored, and senior Tyson Labus had 14 points to lead the way. Senior Aaron Grass and junior Drew McConkey each added 10 in a game that included eight 3-pointers for the Panthers.
The Panthers will conclude their regular season with a game at eighth-ranked Central (19-3) on Thursday.
Central 93, Eau Claire North 50
LA CROSSE — The eighth-ranked RiverHawks (19-3) won their second game in as many days and beat the Huskies (8-15) handily at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium.
Junior Gabe Servais made three 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Central, which made 12 3-pointers.
Junior Anthony Jones followed up a 29-poiint performance in a win at Aquinas on Friday with 16 points, and senior Joey Pretasky and junior Gander Conrad had 11 apiece.
Junior Will Schilling also scored 10 points for the RiverHawks, who have won 15 of their past 16 games.
Onalaska 106, Mauston 65
ONALASKA — The fourth-ranked Hilltoppers (19-3) reached the century mark for a second time this season in a one-sided win at the Chuck Deeth Fieldhouse.
Senor Ian Kowal scored a team-high 24 points, and sophomore Tyler Kowal, who was injured in the second half of Thursday’s nonconference win at West Salem, returned to the lineup and scored 17.
Sophomores Wylder Burch and Gavin McRoberts scored 10 each for Onalaska, which can win the MVC championship outright by winning at Tomah on Thursday.
Luther 84, Westby 63
ONALASKA — The Knights stretched a five-point halftime lead to 25 by holding the Norsemen to nine points over the first 11 minutes of the second half.
Luther (13-10, 7-4 Coulee) received a game-high 30 points from junior Trent Berg, who made 12 of 16 shots and had seven rebounds. Freshman Javon Zenke had 13 points and 11 rebounds and senior Max Huelskamp 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Knights close out their regular season by hosting second-place G-E-T (19-4, 9-2) — ranked 10th in Division 3 — on Thursday.
Minnehaha Academy 87, Caledonia 64
MINNEAPOLIS — The Warriors (15-10) received a team-high 15 points from sophomore Grant King and three 3-pointers and 14 points from senior Aaron Stemper.
Junior Jacoby Hammell also scored 11 for Caledonia as it concluded its regular season.
