ROCHESTER — The Caledonia/Houston wrestling team crowned two champions and will send four qualifiers to the MSHSL Class A brackets of the state tournament after their performances at the Section 1A tournament on Saturday.
Senior Will Allen and sophomore Cooper Allen won brackets, and eighth-grader Kiplyn Meiners and senior Aiden Burns placed second in the two-day competition at the Mayo Civic Center.
Will Allen (39-2) won at 172 pounds and advanced to the finals with a bye, a pin and a technical fall. He beat Goodhue’s Jackson O’Reilly 7-1 for the championship.
Cooper Allen (29-11) won at 215 and also advanced with a bye, a pin and a technical fall before getting a takedown in the third period to beat Chatfield’s Will Boelter 3-1 in the finals.
Meiners (28-13) won three matches and lost one. He lost by technical fall in the finals but advanced by rul. Burns (30-9) was also 3-1 in the section bracket at 114 and lost the championship match to Goodhue’s Arlyn von Knobelsdorff 4-1 when von Knobelsdorff scored a takedown for sudden victory.
They will all compete at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul next week. The state tournament begins Wednesday and concludes Saturday.

MSHSL state meet
ST. PAUL — Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston junior Vivian Kittleson placed 32nd on the balance beam in Class A at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium.
Kittleson, who advanced with a fourth-place section finish and became the team’s first state qualifier in 15 years, had an average score of 8.15 to finish 42nd.
