LA CROSSE — The Logan High School girls basketball team experienced a rough Tuesday but came back with a very positive Friday in a 67-37 MVC victory over Tomah at the Steve Hole Field House.
The Rangers (4-13, 1-7 MVC) snapped a three-game losing streak and won their first conference game of the season by establishing a season high for points in a game and receiving at least two from everyone who played.
Logan was three days removed from making four free throws and no field goals in a 61-point loss to Onalaska, but it used a 37-point first half to take a 19-point lead over the Timberwolves (3-13, 1-6). Tomah beat Logan 54-32 in the first meeting between the teams.
Senior Lydia Mason scored a team-high 18 points and had 13 of those in the first half. Senior Kaia DePaolo scored 13 points with six in the first half and seven in the second, and senior Kenna Streeck made a 3-pointer on her way to nine points.
The Rangers play next at Sparta (9-8, 2-6). The Spartans beat Logan 65-48 on Jan. 22.
West Salem 69, G-E-T 35
WEST SALEM — The Panthers (9-6, 7-1 Coulee) took over sole possession of the Coulee Conference lead by beating the Red Hawks for the second time this season.
West Salem has won four of its past five games and leads second-place Viroqua (11-4, 6-1) by a half-game and third-place Arcadia (12-7, 6-2) by one game in the standings.
Sophomore Amelia Karr scored 22 points to lead the Panthers in a game they led 44-21 after one half. Karr made one 3-pointer in each half and had 13 points in the first half.
Senior Josie Brudos added 14 points, and sophomores Anna Witte and Ava Hendrickson had nine each.
West Salem hosts Marshfield (5-12) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
DeForest 45, Holmen 43 (OT)
DEFOREST — The Vikings (10-6) faltered in overtime against the Norskies.
Holmen trailed 31-21 at the half but came back to tie the score at 40 by the end of regulation.
Senior Charley Casey led that charge with eight second-half points during the comeback. Casey finished with a team-high 12.
Sophomore Aspyn Archer made two first-half 3-pointers and added 10 points for the Vikings, who also received nine on a 3-pointer and six free throws from sophomore Makenzie Nunemacher.
Holmen was hurt by making just 14 of 26 free throws in the game.
Goodhue 91, Caledonia 82
CALEDONIA — The Warriors (16-5) lost for the second time in three games after building a 13-point first-half lead against the Wildcats.
Senior Aubrie Klug made five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 25 points for Caledonia, which also received 23 from senior Nicole Banse and 21 from junior Jessica Stendel.
Goodhue made 11 3-pointers to Caledonia’s eight and 30 free throws to Caledonia’s 10. The Warriors were 10 for 20 from the foul line and the Wildcats 30 for 34.
