SPARTA — The Central High School boys basketball team pushed its winning streak to eight games on Friday with a 73-30 MVC win at Sparta.
The second-place RiverHawks (12-2, 6-1 MVC) — ranked eighth in Division 2 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll — carved out a 14-point halftime lead, then held the Spartans to eight points in the second half.
Central shot 57.4 percent from the floor, made 13 of 23 attempts from the 3-point line and hit 6 of 7 free throws.
Junior Anthony Jones made four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 18 points to go with six rebounds and four assists. Junior Gabe Servais added 12 points with two 3-pointers, and junior Gander Conrad made three 3-pointers for nine points.
The RiverHawks put their winning streak on the line at home against Sauk Prairie (12-4) at 7:15 p.m. Saturday.
Aquinas 62, Onalaska 59
ONALASKA — The Blugolds became the first team this season to beat the Hilltoppers (13-1, 7-1 MVC), who saw their lead over second-place Central (12-2, 6-1) shrink to a half-game.
Aquinas (15-2, 6-2) is just a game back after reversing a loss to Onalaska earlier this season.
Junior Calvin Bahr scored 20 points to lead Aquinas — ranked fifth in Division 3 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll — to its third win in a row heading into Saturday’s nonconference home game against McFarland (14-2).
Sophomore Tyler Kowal scored 22 for the Hilltoppers, who are ranked first in Division 2.

Tomah 99, Logan 78
LA CROSSE — The Timberwolves led the Rangers (2-13, 1-7 MVC) the entire game.
Senior Dio Leone scored 23 points and junior Harper Kendle added 15 and Logan lost its second game in a row since a victory over Sparta.
Sophomores Tommy Check and Henry Bosch scored 13 points each for the Rangers.
Junior Quinn Gerke scored 45 points for Tomah.
