Monday basketball: Luther boys, Melrose-Mindoro girls drop games

GALESVILLE — The Luther High School boys basketball team hung with G-E-T before fading in the second half of a Coulee Conference game on Monday.

The Knights were outscored by 14 points in the second half of a 90-68 loss to the Red Hawks.

Junior guard Trent Berg scored a team-high 15 points for Luther (7-6, 3-2 Coulee), which lost its second straight game ahead of two consecutive games against first-place West Salem on Thursday and Saturday. The teams play at Luther on Thursday and at West Salem on Saturday.

Berg made 6 of 8 shots and finished with eight rebounds for the Knights, who made just 4 of 25 attempts from the 3-point line.

Senior Max Huelskamp added 13 points and freshman Javon Zenke 10 to go with six rebounds for Luther.

Bangor 66, Melrose-Mindoro 47

BANGOR — The Mustangs (6-8) lost their second game in a row and were outscored by 15 points in the second half of a loss to the Cardinals.

Senior Anna Radcliffe made six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points for the Mustangs. She was held to eight points with two of her 3-pointers in the second half as Bangor pulled away.

Senior Cooper Zeman added 14 points and knocked down one 3-pointer in each half for Melrose-Mindoro, which next hosts Whitehall on Tuesday.
