TOMAH — The Central High School girls basketball team built a 21-point halftime lead before completing an 80-40 MVC victory at Tomah on Thursday.
The RiverHawks, who are third in Division 2 for this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll, improved to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference by doubling up its second opponent in a row.
Senior Alahnna Simpson scored a game-high 31 points for Central, which beat Winona 70-35 in its previous game. Simpson pushed her per-game scoring average to 20.2 points with the performance.
Freshman Ellie Apuan added 15 points and junior Ellie Gillitzer 11 for the RiverHawks, who next play at Logan on Tuesday.
West Salem 59, Arcadia 57
WEST SALEM — The Panthers (5-4, 4-0 Coulee) moved into a tie with Viroqua for first place in the conference by hanging on and becoming the first Coulee team to beat the Raiders (9-3, 4-1).
Senior Josie Brudos scored 24 points to lead West Salem, which led 55-44 on one of her 3-pointers with 8 minutes, 5 seconds left.

Onalaska Luther 76, Black River Falls 29
ONALASKA — The Knights (5-6, 1-2 Coulee) picked up their first conference win in a game they led 38-22 at halftime. The Tigers were held to seven second-half points.
Sophomore Brinley Schmitz scored a team-high 18 points with 13 in the second half, and sophomore Jaeyda Livingston added 15 with three of her team’s eight 3-pointers. Sophomore Cara Unke scored 11 and junior Ava Gudmundson nine for the Knights, who have won two of their past three.
Gudmundson and junior Addy Palubicki combined for 12 of Luther’s second-half points and provided their team with depth and offensive control.
Caledonia 72, St. Charles 39
ST. CHARLES — The Warriors (10-3, 5-0 Three Rivers-East) won their third game in a row and received another big performance from senior Aubrie Klug.
Klug scored 23 of her 29 points in the first half and finished with three 3-pointers. She has scored 106 points in her past three games and is averaging 25.7 points per game this season.
Caledonia led 50-17 by halftime and hosts Dover-Eyota (9-4) on Monday.
Senior Peyten Felten made two 3-pointers and added 10 points, while senior Kensey King added eight.
