Tuesday hockey: Avalanche win fourth straight; Coulee Region picks up girls win

ONALASKA — The Avalanche scored twice in each period to claim a 6-3 nonconference boys hockey victory over La Crescent-Hokah at the OmniCenter on Tuesday.

The co-op, which features players from Holmen, Aquinas, G-E-T, Onalaska Luther and C-FC, won its fourth game in a row and pushed its record to 6-6 entering Thursday’s Western Wisconsin Conference matchup against West Salem/Bangor (0-8-1, 0-2-1).

Jack Barth, a senior from Holmen, scored two goals for the Avalanche, who needed goals from Barth and senior Jax Hendrickson in the third period after the Lancers scored three times in the second to get within 4-3.

Barth gave his team a 5-3 lead when he scored with an assist from Corbin Meyer at 6 minutes, 29 seconds of the third, and Hendrickson converted at 11:55 with an assist from Trevor Ehrat.

James Siegert and Cole Van Lin scored first-period goals for the Avalanche, and Barth and Mikah Vail gave them a 4-0 lead with two quick goals in the second.

Ayden Dirks and Jack Franzini assisted on Siegert’s 12th goal, and Jaxson Reilley assisted on Van Lin’s sixth. Barth also has six goals this season.

Liam Collins played in goal for the Avalanche and stopped 22 shots while allowing all three scores.

West Salem/Bangor 4, Viroqua 4

WEST SALEM — The Panthers (0-8-1, 0-2-1) scored the last goal of the third period and survived overtime to earn a tie with the Blackhawks at the Panther Den.

Senior Coen Knutson scored West Salem’s first goal in the first period and its last in the third to lead the offense. His second goal, which came with assists from Terryn Boland and Braydon Baures, was scored at the 4:33 mark of the third and answered a Viroqua goal that was scored 11 seconds earlier.

Sophomore Berkley Brose and senior Aiden Hillyer also scored goals for the Panthers in the second period. Brose scored with an assist from Cade Donahue and Hillyer with one from Boland as the Panthers were short-handed to tie the game at 3.

Knutson’s first goal was assisted by Kayden Dettmering and Boland.

Boland’s three assists boosted his assist total this season to eight.

Senior Colin Devine stopped 32 shots while playing the entire game in goal for West Salem.

Coulee Region 5, Viroqua 2

WEST SALEM — The Cyclones (2-8) stopped an eight-game losing streak with a three-goal second period at the Panther Den.

Coulee Region took the lead for good with its big second period after the teams exchanged goals in the first.

Brooke Borkenhagen, a senior from Bangor, had a hand in all three goals for the Cyclones, She and Samara Collins assisted Holmen sophomore Paige Downing on the first one, which broke the 1-1 tie just 7 seconds into the period.

Borkenhagen then scored the next two at 1:10 and 3:02. Rylee Hoehn assisted on the first and Raegan Domack on the second, which was short-handed.

Borkenhagen also scored in the third to record the hat trick, and that one came unassisted at 9:49.
Hannah Korish, a Logan sophomore, scored the Cyclones’ first goal 4:16 into the game with assists from Jocelyn Johnson and Sydney Cichosz.

Aria Chamberland, a freshman from Holmen, stopped 18 shots to get the win in goal for Coulee Region.
