WEST SALEM — The West Salem High School boys basketball team had a chance at some revenge on Monday and didn’t let the opportunity slip through its fingers.

The Panthers remained unbeaten on the season by pummeling visiting Wausau East 93-58 in a nonconference matchup.

West Salem (4-0) had last season ended by the Lumberjacks (1-6) in last season’s WIAA Division 2 sectional finals. East won that game 82-45.

Nine Panthers scored, and junior Drew McConkey finished with a team-high 26 points. McConkey made eight field goals and all four of his free throws during a 20-point first half that helped West Salem to a 54-30 halftime lead.

Senior Nate Dillaber made three 3-pointers on his way to 15 points, while senior Tyson Labus added 13 and senior Will Schmidt 12 for the Panthers, who next play at Caledonia (5-1) on Dec. 30.
