Friday girls wrestling: Holmen post invitational win at Eau Claire Memorial

EAU CLAIRE — The Holmen High School girls wrestling team had 10 entrants place sixth or better on th way to a team championship at the Eau Claire Memorial Invitational on Friday.

The Vikings put three in the finals — all three placed second — in the way to scoring 330 points. Central/Logan was second with 228, and West Salem/Bangor placed eighth with 160.5.

Senior Sophia Walter (235 pounds) and juniors Aini Anderson (107) and Kaytlynn Lambries (132) all gave Holmen second-place performances to lead the way in an event with entrants from 36 teams.

Walter, ranked ninth at 185 by Wisconsin Grappler, beat Spencer’s Anna Becker — ranked sixth at 235 — 7-1 before being pinned by Eau Claire North’s Rainie Yang — ranked 11th at 235 — at the 4-minute mark of the finals.

Anderson, who is ranked third at 100, pinned her first three opponents in 1:45 or less before Saint Croix Central’s Ayda Miller — ranked sixth at 107 — handed her an 11-5 championship defeat.

Lambries, who is ranked seventh at 114, bumped up three weight classes and pinned her way to the finals with three sub-minute pins. Faye Schachnter — ranked fourth at 126 — then pinned her in the first period of the championship bout.

The Vikings also had placement finishes of third from freshman Kaina Westlie (120), sophomore Ruby Gustafson (138) and junior Avalee Euler (165), fourth from junior Celia Drogseth (152), fifth from senior Peyton Kratochvill (126) and sixth from junior Abby Molling (132).

Central/Logan was led by a second-place finish from junior Myrikal Johnson at 185. Johnson pinned quarterfinal and semifinal opponents in less than a minute before fourth-ranked Maddie Sorensen from Eau Claire North pinned her in the finals.

West Salem/Bangor freshman Sophia Anderson, who is ranked fourth in the state, was also a finalist at 114. She won twice by pin and once by technical fall before a 14-1 championship loss to Hudson’s Mary Prescott, who is ranked ninth at 120.

Central/Logan junior Emylie Vang (126) and freshman Ellin Bemis (165) added fourth-place performances.
