The forecast of incoming snow and ice has obliterated the local sports schedule for Tuesday night, but the biggest event is still on, according to both coaches.

The Aquinas High School girls basketball team (4-1), which is ranked eighth in Division 3 in this week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll will travel to put its 114-game MVC winning streak on the line against Holmen (3-1) at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse.

The Blugolds haven’t lost a conference game since a 51-49 defeat at Holmen back on Dec. 11, 2015. The Vikings outscored Aquinas by six points in the second half to win that game and were led by a 14-point performance by Karissa Bjornstad. Kyah Steiner scored a game-high 16 for the Blugolds.

Aquinas has since beaten the Vikings 19 straight times, and both teams enter this 7:15 p.m. tipoff with winning streaks. The Blugolds have won four straight games and Holmen two in a row.

Aquinas senior Sammy Davis, who has averaged 22 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, will have to be the focal point for Holmen’s defense. Junior Eva Willenbring has also made 11 3-pointers and averaged 9.8 points for the Blugolds.

Senior Macy Kline has averaged 10.8 points for the Vikings and scored 32 points in recent wins over Eau Claire North and West Salem. Sophomore Makenzie Nunemacher scored 29 points in those two games, and sophomore Aspyn Archer had 25 after leading the team with 16 against the Panthers.

Holmen senior Charley Casey was injured after a hard fall against West Salem, but she is expected to play tonight.
